Winterbud - Exploratory Platformer
A downloadable project
This exploratory platformer is a character backstory and offshoot of my 2200 First Thaw TTRPG. It is set in an underground shelter where the character Yoye happened to end up and is finding their way out to the surface. My goal with this game from the beginning was to somehow link it back to my TTRPG in some interesting way. I as a casual gamer and watcher of gamers really enjoy leisurely, story-driven puzzle platformers the most so I really wanted to create something of that sort. I decided to go about that by creating an interesting, surreal environment with plant elements placed in a sparse, symbolic way to reference back to my original topic as well as the idea of escaping in a tundra. The rooms themselves were very much inspired by games like Inside and Little Nightmares with a more fantastical and weathered appearance but the third person viewing experience was done to make it a bit more of a challenge both during play and creation. Adding onto that, I really wanted to do as much as I could create on my own, which led me to design and create everything but the plants, props and environment textures.
